Downtown Walk 8.18.2010

Now that I've purchased a condo in the beltline area, just off the always wild 17th Avenue area, I've been finding some great old buildings and architecture to photograph. Last night I decided to go for a walk all the way down to Olympic Plaza, as I hadn't been there in quite a few years. Driving by it every morning I see they have the fountains on, and they have large orange sticks in the garden area with names of the different parks and such. Not sure if it's for an anniversary of the city, but I'm going to have to do some more research on that. They also have a wall with (for some silly reason..) pink, plastic, ground squirells poking out of holes in it. I again, have no idea what the heck they were thinking when spending the money on something like that. I didn't get any photos of that as when I got there, there were a couple of very young girls sitting on the non-operational fountain kissing (obviously lesbians...not that there's anything wrong with that), and there were some crack users amongst the gang of about 20 young kids there.
I was able to finally get some good photos of the new BOW tower going up, 8th Avenue Place which has had stop work orders 3 or 4 times due to safety issues, and old sandstone buildings in the beltline area.

I have a few photos up from last night on my flickr photostream, but keep checking back to see some more!

Photoshoot! 8-1-2010

I had already done one photoshoot with Dannielle and the photos turned out really good. This time, I had scouted out a couple of different locations. The locations we used this time were:
1) The University Of Calgary Research Park (pond and treed area)
2) Burns Memorial Gardens
3) Central Memorial Park
4) Graffiti Alley next to Mona Lisa's Art Supplies

Now that I had the back windows tinted in the CRV, they provide a good "mobile changing room" which we were lacking at the first shoot. With a black sheet hiding any view through the windshield, it provided a nice private changing area which turned out to be very handy.
Dannielle brought 3 or 4 outfits and the downtown shoots she ended up just changing at my condo since it was close to the locations.

It was another thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, and as always, Dannielle was a pleasure to work with. Although we both don't have a lot of experience doing this, we work well together and the photos show that she likes being in front of the camera.

Thanks again, Dannielle! I look forward to our next shoot...we're planning on doing some "themes" for the next one.
